9 July 2021: Notes from 11 June discussion and next steps

Joelle Wickens

Dear Colleagues,

To those of you who were able to join us on June 11, thank you so much for continuing to explore the ideas we originally presented in Who is a Conservator? What is Conservation? Evolving our identities and practice to thrive in an inclusive world. For those of you who were not able to join us, we have a summary of our discussion we are happy to share. Use the contact tab on this website to request the notes. Thank you so much to Meagan Creamer and Allison Kelley for taking some pretty comprehensive notes.

What next?

  1. Please share our website Who is a conservator? with 2 or 3 people outside the ‘usual’ conservation network. People we argue are doing conservation but probably don’t consider themselves conservators. Technicians, HVAC engineers, oral historians, archivists, cemetery groundskeepers… We want to reach the people we need to join us if we adopt a broader definition of who is doing conservation. Please help us reach those people.
  2. Register for our next discussion. 78% of you definitely wanted to continue the discussion. So, we have planned another one for August 11.  We have updated the registration link at the bottom of the Who is a conservator? page. Please register there if you want to join us.

We are exploring other partnerships to generate content for the platform. If you have ideas about how this website can grow to create more dialogue, please reach out- we’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for being part of our thought provoking, growth oriented community,

Joelle and Natalya
